SUV driver dies after pickup truck, SUV crash in Laurens County

The SUV driver later died at an area hospital.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, one person has died days after a pickup truck and SUV crashed in Laurens County. Master Trooper Brandon Bolt stated that the two-vehicle collision occurred on April 22, but the death wasn't reported until Tuesday. The incident happened at around 2:20 p.m. when a 2015 Chevrolet pickup was driving east on Green Pond Road and collided with a westbound 2010 Lexus SUV that was turning into a private driveway. Both drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles and were taken to an area hospital. The SUV driver later died, and the Laurens County Coroner's Office has not publicly identified the victim. The condition of the Chevy driver is unknown. No other injuries were reported. The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and it is unclear if anyone involved was wearing a seat belt.

As of Sunday, 280 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina. At least four people have died in Laurens County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 24 deaths were reported in the county.
