16-Year-Old Girl Dies in Single Vehicle Accident in Sterling

One 16-year-old died at the scene, and a second 16-year-old girl was transported with serious injuries.
One Teen Dead, Another Injured in Sterling Car Accident
A tragic accident occurred on Monday evening north of Sterling resulting in the death of one 16-year-old girl and serious injuries to another. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) reported that a Ford Focus driven by a 16-year-old girl was traveling eastbound on Logan County Road 62 when it started to veer off the right side of the road.
The driver over-corrected to the left causing the car to return to the right before leaving the road clockwise. The vehicle collided with a fencepost, rolled twice, and came to rest facing east in a field near LCR 57. Neither of the girls were wearing seatbelts at the time of impact.
Authorities have not released any names at this time but confirm that both victims are 16 years old and from Sterling. One died at the scene while emergency responders transported another with serious injuries for medical treatment.
The CSP is still investigating what caused this fatal accident and encourages anyone who may have witnessed it or has information about it to come forward as soon as possible.
