16-year-old Pathfinder Tech student dies in Palmer car accident

A tragic accident in Palmer, Massachusetts has resulted in the loss of a 16-year-old Pathfinder Tech student's life. The incident occurred on Sykes Street when the student collided with a tractor trailer unit traveling southbound.
The collision took place around 2:21 p.m. on Tuesday as the student was exiting the Pathfinder Regional School property located at 240 Sykes St., operating a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban. Upon exiting, the Suburban was struck broadside on the driver's side by the tractor trailer.
Emergency services were quick to respond and our crew could see several Palmer and State Police cruisers, a firetruck, and a heavily damaged vehicle at the scene. A medical examiner was also present.
Police tape blocked all traffic through the road near Palmer District Court and entrance to Pathfinder Regional while authorities conducted their investigation into what caused this tragedy. The driver of the tractor trailer is cooperating with investigators but no further details have been released about their involvement or potential charges they may face.
At this time, police are withholding information about who exactly lost their life in this accident until family members can be notified properly. Support services will be made available to students and staff Wednesday to provide assistance during this difficult time.
