Driver of 18-Wheeler Dies in Lafayette, LA Accident

Driver of 18-wheeler died
An overturned 18-wheeler has caused the closure of I-49 Northbound at Pont Des Mouton in Lafayette, Louisiana. According to Lafayette Police, the accident occurred when "the 18-wheeler was traveling on I-49 N just before East Butcher Switch Road when it collided with an unoccupied abandoned vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway." The collision caused the driver to lose control and leave the road before coming to a stop at 3100 NE Evangeline Thruway near East Butcher Switch.
Unfortunately, as a result of this crash, the driver of the 18-wheeler passed away. The Louisiana Department of Transportation reports that congestion has reached I-10 due to this incident.
"I-49 North is closed at Pont Des Mouton due to an accident. Congestion has reached I-10," warns authorities.
