18-Year-Old Woman Dies in Car Crash in Georgetown

One fatality, several injuries
An 18-year-old woman from Ellendale tragically lost her life in a car crash that occurred on Sunday morning in Georgetown. The incident also left several others injured.
According to the Delaware State Police, the accident took place around 11:40 a.m. A 39-year-old woman from Ellendale was driving a Mazda 3 south on Dupont Boulevard (Route 113), just south of West Robbins Road. Simultaneously, a 58-year-old man from Bangor, Pennsylvania, was traveling north on Dupont Boulevard in a Nissan Murano.
In an official news release, the police stated that "for unknown reasons, the Mazda swerved sharply to its left and drove through the center grass median and into the northbound lanes, where it collided with the oncoming Nissan."
Tragically, the front-seat passenger in the Mazda—an 18-year-old female—was pronounced dead at a hospital. Her identity will be disclosed once her family has been notified. Additionally, a four-year-old boy who was seated in the back of the Mazda was initially taken to one hospital but later transferred via air ambulance "for continued treatment," as reported by law enforcement officials.
The driver of the Mazda sustained non-life threatening injuries and is currently receiving medical care at another hospital. Similarly, both occupants of the Nissan—the driver and front-seat passenger—were transported to a hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries.
Following this devastating incident, authorities closed down both northbound and southbound lanes of Dupont Highway for four hours and two hours respectively while they conducted their investigation and cleared up debris from the scene.
