Two men killed, three others injured

Two men were killed and three others injured in a tragic accident on Monday morning in Miami County, Ohio. The incident occurred when two tires dislodged from the axle of a trailer being pulled by a southbound semitrailer on I-75. The tandem tires went through the median and hit a northbound Dodge minivan before crashing head-on into a Chevrolet van carrying five people.

David Wright, 77, of Franklin, who was driving the Chevrolet van, and Jon Weidel, 72, of Brookville were identified as the deceased victims in the crash. Two other passengers in the van were taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries but are expected to survive. A fifth passenger did not suffer any injuries.

The driver of the semitrailer that lost its wheels has been identified as Lyndon Hershberger, 59, of Winchester. State troopers are investigating whether he was aware that his vehicle had lost its tires or not.

The crash caused multiple lane closures on northbound I-75 for several hours while authorities investigated and cleared up debris from the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
