20-Year-Old Man in Critical Condition After Crash Near McHenry

Several people injured
Last Saturday, at approximately 11:40 a.m., a vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Miller Road and Spring Grove Road in unincorporated McHenry, leaving several individuals injured. According to reports from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, a black Ford Focus traveling northbound on Spring Grove Road attempted to make a left turn onto Miller Road when it collided with an Infiniti Q50 traveling southbound on Spring Grove Road.
The collision resulted in moderate to heavy damage to both vehicles, with at least one person trapped inside. Firefighters worked for approximately 20 minutes to extricate the individual. In total, there were two occupants in the Infiniti and four occupants in the Ford who sustained injuries and were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
The driver of the Ford, a 22-year-old man from Homer Glen, as well as one passenger, a 20-year-old woman, were taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital. The driver of the Infiniti, a 41-year-old man, and his sole passenger, a 44-year-old woman also received medical attention at Northwestern Medicine Hospital.
Fortunately, these four victims suffered only minor injuries. However, two passengers from the Ford - a 20-year-old man and another 20-year-old woman - sustained severe injuries requiring transportation to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The male victim was flown by LifeNet medical helicopter while the female victim was ground transported by ambulance.
Shane Callahan - one of the severely injured passengers - underwent surgery due to spinal cord injury and is currently admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and faces an arduous recovery process.
As part of his rehabilitation journey following surgery at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, Shane has been transferred to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago.
To assist with the expenses incurred during Shane's recovery, a GoFundMe account was created by the family. Just short of $30,000 has been raised at the time of writing.
