A tragic accident occurred in Delmar on Thursday, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old man from Laurel. The victim was riding a motorized skateboard when he was struck by a car, according to a news release from the Delaware State Police.

The incident took place around 5:50 p.m. on Bi-State Boulevard, north of Allen's Mill Road. The victim was riding his skateboard in the center of the road when a Hyundai Tucson traveling north on Bi-State Boulevard approached the area.

According to the news release, "For unknown reasons, the man swerved right into the Tucson's path." In an attempt to avoid hitting him, the driver of the Tucson also swerved right but unfortunately collided with the skateboarder who had entered into the northbound lane.

As a result of impact, "the man on the skateboard was forced onto the windshield before falling off," stated police officials. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Authorities will disclose his identity once his family has been notified.

Fortunately, no harm came to anyone else involved in this tragic incident. The driver of the Hyundai Tucson is identified as a 21-year-old woman from Fruitland, Maryland and she escaped unharmed.

Following standard procedure after such accidents, law enforcement closed down Bi-State Boulevard for approximately four hours while they conducted their investigation and cleared up any potential hazards caused by this collision.
