In a devastating turn of events, a 3-year-old child was fatally struck by a vehicle after wandering out of an apartment in Hillsborough County, Florida. The incident occurred during the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies promptly responded to a distress call at approximately 3:30 a.m., alerting them that a toddler had been hit by a vehicle. Tragically, despite immediate medical attention, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and highlighted that the area where it took place is densely populated with numerous homes and apartment complexes. However, within just one hour of receiving the report, deputies were able to locate the parents who were desperately searching for their missing toddler.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the young child had wandered out through an open door at Valencia Apartments before encountering this tragic accident. Sheriff Chronister described this heart-wrenching scene as unimaginable even for experienced law enforcement officers. He emphasized that as parents, one would expect their child to be safe and sound asleep in bed at such an early hour; thus making this situation truly nightmarish for everyone involved.
The driver involved in this unfortunate incident remained on-site following the collision and has been fully cooperative with authorities throughout their investigation. At present, no charges have been filed against anyone related to this heartbreaking event.
