66-Year-Old Man Dies in Train vs. Truck Collision in Virden

A tragic incident occurred in Virden, Illinois on Thursday, resulting in the death of a 66-year-old man. The collision between a train and a pickup truck took place on Macoupin County Line Road in Sangamon County.
According to Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell, the accident unfolded when the pickup truck attempted to cross the railroad tracks while a train was approaching from the northwest. Regrettably, the truck was struck by the oncoming train and subsequently caught fire.
Tragically, one person inside the truck lost their life at the crash site. Meanwhile, emergency responders rushed another occupant of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman, to an area hospital for treatment. Fortunately, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Multiple authorities swiftly responded to this devastating incident. Emergency personnel from Auburn, Divernon, and Virden joined forces with Sagamon County Sheriff's deputies at the scene of this horrific collision.
