9-year-old killed in major car crash in Putnam County

A fatal car accident occurred in Putnam County, Florida on Highway 17 and Poor Farm Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV was driving southbound when it failed to make a left curve and ended up exiting the roadway onto the unpaved shoulder. The car hit an embankment resulting in it going airborne before landing near a tree and overturning. Two children were ejected from the vehicle during this process while another child was found dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old woman, along with one of her children aged 11 years old and another aged 13 years old were sent to different hospitals for treatment. Emergency services are currently on site with three helicopters requested to help those who are injured.
Highway 17 near Rice Creek Bridge will be closed for several hours as authorities investigate what caused this tragic incident. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes and avoid this area if possible.
