92-year-old driver seriously injured, others with minor injuries

A 92-year-old driver was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred in Clermont County's Miami Township, Ohio. The incident took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday on State Route 28 near Romar Drive, east of Interstate 275.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, John C. Smith of Milford was driving his 2017 Ford Focus hatchback when it was rear-ended by an 18-year-old named Jesse Sallman who was operating a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck heading southwest on Ohio Route 28. The impact caused Smith's vehicle to collide with a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

Smith sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to Bethesda North Hospital via ambulance before being transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further treatment. As of Friday morning, there has been no update regarding his current condition.

Jesse Sallman, also from Milford, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bethesda North Hospital for medical evaluation. Austin Ringland, the driver of the Chevrolet involved in the crash and another resident from Milford, fortunately escaped unharmed.

All drivers involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident as confirmed by state troopers.

The cause of this three-vehicle collision is still under investigation by authorities from OSP's Batavia post. It remains unclear how fast Sallman's pickup truck was traveling when it collided with Smith's hatchback since crash reconstruction officers were unavailable due to training commitments in Columbus during that period.

As investigations continue, authorities are working diligently to determine the exact cause of this three-vehicle collision and ensure road safety for all motorists traveling through Miami Township.
