An Alabama man has been charged in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in South Windsor last fall, police said. Alexander J. Harb, 61, of Ozark, Ala., turned himself into police on Monday morning and was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and left-turn failure to yield to the right of way.
The charges against Harb stem from a crash that occurred on September 30, 2022, around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Sullivan Avenue, or Route 194, and Rye Street. According to police, Harb was driving a tractor-trailer and "took an illegal left turn in front of a motorcycle, causing the death of the driver."
The driver, identified as Nathan Eberly, 24, of Simsbury, was driving home from work at FedEx Ground on Kennedy Road when he was killed. Eberly's death was a tragic loss for his family and friends.
Harb was released on a $5,000 bond and appeared Monday in state Superior Court in Manchester, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court on June 26, judicial records show.
The South Windsor Police Department conducted an investigation into the crash, and the charges against Harb were the result of that investigation. The police department expressed its condolences to Eberly's family and friends and urged all drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
