Truck driver transported to hospital in critical condition, other drivers' conditions unknown. Packages recovered and taken to local Amazon fulfillment center. Freeway reopened.
A female driver of an Amazon semi-truck was critically injured after crashing into a side wall on the westbound side of the 210 Freeway at Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia. The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, causing hundreds of packages to scatter on and around the freeway.
The truck driver was ejected into the carpool lane due to the impact, while debris from the crash caused two other vehicles to collide with each other. The conditions of those drivers are currently unknown.
Video footage shows that large chunks of debris and hundreds of packages were scattered down towards homes on Evergreen Avenue after demolishing part of the side wall. Some residents reportedly attempted to steal some packages that fell off both sides onto nearby streets.
According to Monrovia Police Department, a tow truck recovered some packages which will be transported back to a local Amazon fulfillment center for further assessment.
Caltrans crews have been assessing damage since Saturday morning but it is unclear how long it will take for them to fully repair the damaged section of road. The 210 Freeway has now reopened following several hours closure due to this incident.
