West Barris Killed in Semi and Pickup Truck Crash

An Atoka man lost his life in a fatal accident that occurred on Tuesday morning. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident involved a semi and a pickup truck and took place at around 7:30 am on State Highway 7 near the Johnston/Atoka county line, approximately two miles west of Atoka.
The victim was identified as West Barris, aged 40. Reports suggest that he was driving eastbound in the westbound lane when his vehicle collided head-on with an approaching semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Tragically, Barris did not survive the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck reportedly escaped unharmed.
As a result of this collision, State Highway 7 had to be closed for roughly four hours before it could be reopened again by noon. Investigations into what caused this accident are still ongoing.
