Baby Boy Zahir Gonzalez Dies in Bainbridge Crash, Community Calls for Traffic Light

Baby boy Zahir Gonzalez died in the crash.
A tragic accident in Bainbridge, Georgia has left a community mourning the loss of a two-month-old baby boy. Zahir Gonzalez was killed early Thursday morning when his mother's car was struck by a bus at the intersection of Bethel Road and Highway 27.
Briona Gonzalez, Zahir's mother, is calling for better safety measures to be put in place after losing her son.
The director of Bainbridge Public Safety, Frank Green, agrees that changes need to be made at this dangerous intersection.
This deadly crash marks the fifth accident at this intersection in just 16 months with two resulting in injuries prior to Thursday's tragedy.
Residents are now urging local officials and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for action before another life is lost.
With plans underway for a truck stop near this already problematic area residents fear without proper safety measures such as traffic lights more lives will continue being lost on these roads.
"I'm not a reckless driver," Briona said. "They need to put up a stoplight...Not just for my case but for all the other cases that have happened as well."
