Bayville man killed in Garden State Parkway crash

A Bayville man lost his life in a tragic accident on Friday afternoon while driving a Peterbilt garbage truck along the Garden State Parkway. The New Jersey State Police confirmed that David Mello Jr., 56, was killed in the crash near milepost 82.8 in Toms River.

Sgt. Philip Curry, spokesperson for the State Police, reported that the Peterbilt 320 garbage truck that Mello was operating crossed into the right shoulder, drove off the road and struck several trees. As a result of this impact, Mello was thrown from the vehicle.

The southbound lanes remained open during investigations; however, traffic came to a standstill as far back as nine miles north of Exit 90 in Brick with delays extending into Middletown.

The cause of this fatal accident remains under investigation by authorities at present.
