Beloved Husband and Father in Critical Condition After Hit-and-Run Crash in South Los Angeles

Gomez remains in critical condition in the ICU
A hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles has left a man fighting for his life. Silvino Gomez was struck by the speeding vehicle on June 10 while crossing at the intersection of Central and Vernon Avenues. Despite having a "walk signal" and right of way, Gomez was hit by the car that ran through a red light before fleeing the scene.
Gomez remains in critical condition in ICU with severe injuries after emergency surgery to drain fluids from his head. His friend Oscar Rodriguez said he is "in a really delicate situation." The victim's wife is also struggling as her husband is their only source of income.
The LAPD has released security video footage showing how strong the impact was, flipping Gomez into the air before landing on his head. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed anything or saw a dark-colored sedan with damage to its front end, hood, and possibly windshield around 6 am on June 10th near Central and Vernon Avenues to come forward.
LAPD Detective Juan Campos said: "We know accidents happen, but unfortunately this driver made it a crime by fleeing the scene."
