Bicyclist Dies in Collision with Vehicle in Des Moines

A tragic accident in the Indianola Hills neighborhood of Des Moines claimed the life of a bicyclist this week. According to a news release from police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek, the collision occurred at around 4:07 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Southeast Sixth Street and Pioneer Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered De'Wayne Lee Cole, a 40-year-old resident of Des Moines, with serious injuries. Cole was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Cole failed to yield to a stop sign while making a northbound turn onto Southeast Sixth Street from westbound Pioneer Road. As a result, he collided with a pickup truck whose driver remains unidentified as per Parizek's statement.
Despite ongoing investigations into the incident, authorities believe that charges are unlikely against the 69-year-old truck driver since he had the right of way during the collision.
