Bicyclist Killed in Huntington County Pickup Truck Crash

A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning in Huntington County, Indiana, resulting in the death of a bicyclist who was struck by a pickup truck. According to the Huntington County Sheriff's Department, the identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The accident took place on State Road 9 north of State Road 124 when the bicyclist was hit by a pickup truck while riding in the travel lane. The impact caused the bike to be knocked aside and propelled the rider onto the hood and windshield of the vehicle. Shockingly, they were carried approximately 175 feet before falling off and sliding another 35 feet along the road.
In an unfortunate turn of events, rather than staying at the scene immediately after colliding with the cyclist, it is reported that initially, the driver left but returned about 20 minutes later. They promptly called emergency services (911) and attempted life-saving measures until help arrived.
Tragically, despite prompt medical attention from arriving paramedics, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following standard procedure for fatal crashes involving potential impairment due to drugs or alcohol consumption, the driver underwent a blood draw at a local hospital. This test aims to determine whether any substances may have influenced their ability to operate a vehicle safely.
After completing this procedure, the driver was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Huntington County Jail, facing multiple charges related to their involvement in this devastating collision. However,the specific charges have not been disclosed as per official reports.
As authorities continue their investigation into this heart-wrenching incident, no further details have been provided regarding additional circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
