Box Truck Crashes into Railroad Bridge in Salina, New York

Driver issued seventh traffic ticket
A 35-year-old man from North Syracuse has been issued a seventh traffic ticket after crashing his box truck into the railroad bridge over Onondaga Lake Parkway in Salina, according to Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies. The driver, who was delivering office furniture and cabinets to Fayetteville, is not familiar with the area as he is not a local resident.
Initially facing six tickets for the incident, an additional ticket was issued on Wednesday afternoon. This crash marks the first since new measures were implemented by the State Department of Transportation (DOT) to redirect trucks away from this problematic parkway.
The DOT's changes include keeping the ramp from I-81 to Onondaga Lake Parkway closed, diverting westbound traffic. Upgraded signs have also been installed to warn truck drivers about the low bridge ahead. Furthermore, a section of the parkway beneath the bridge has been reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction.
In this particular incident on Wednesday morning, the box truck was traveling eastbound through Liverpool Village when it collided with the railroad bridge. Video footage captured by Seth Titus shows the aftermath of this collision.
Authorities are urging all drivers unfamiliar with local roads and bridges to exercise caution and pay attention to signage that warns them about potential hazards along their routes.
