Box truck crashes into Olive Road bridge in Augusta

An accident occurred at the Olive Road bridge in Augusta, Georgia on Tuesday evening. The Richmond County dispatchers reported that a box truck crashed into the low railroad overpass around 5:11 p.m. near White Road. Social media photos showed the vehicle stuck under the bridge with a crumpled roof.
The Olive Road bridge is known for being accident-prone due to its low clearance, and trucks getting stuck under it happens at least twice a year or more. As of 7:23 p.m., Olive Road was closed while inspectors assessed the damage caused by this latest incident.
A bridge inspector confirmed that there was indeed damage to the structure from the collision, but they are still unsure of how extensive it is at this time.
This marks yet another unfortunate event at this notorious location in southwest Augusta's medical district.
