Driver not hurt

A box truck driver miraculously survived a violent crash in Springfield on Friday morning. The accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. when the driver of the box truck fell asleep while driving along I-44, just east of the exit for Kansas Expressway.

The Springfield Police Department reported that "the truck hit a guardrail, then flipped and stopped on its roof in the median of the eastbound lanes." Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in this incident, and the driver emerged unscathed.

MoDOT crews responded to clear up debris from the scene and called in a tow company to remove the overturned vehicle. The cause of this accident has been attributed to fatigue-induced drowsiness behind-the-wheel.
