Box Truck Goes Over Hill in South Charleston Crash

One person taken to the hospital
It's the first day back to work for many after the Fourth of July holiday, but drivers in South Charleston are already facing a challenging commute due to an early morning accident. According to Metro 911 dispatchers, a box truck measuring between 40 and 50 feet long veered off Jefferson Road and went over a hill. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. near the South Charleston Community Center.
As emergency crews rush to the scene, Jefferson Road has been closed in both directions while they work on removing the box truck from the road. Preliminary investigations suggest that another car cut in front of the semi-truck, causing it to swerve and collide with the vehicle before plunging down an embankment.
Reports indicate that one person has been transported to a local hospital following this collision. Authorities have confirmed that this individual is indeed the driver of the semi-truck; however, no details regarding their injuries have been released at this time.
To facilitate traffic flow during this closure, South Charleston Police have redirected vehicles through the parking lot of the nearby South Charleston Rec Center. Unfortunately, there is currently no estimated timeline for when Jefferson Road will reopen.
