Fatal Waterbury crash claims life of Bristol man Calvin Mackey Jr.

Calvin Mackey Jr. died on the scene, while the operator of the other vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition at Waterbury Hospital. Two other people were also injured in the crash and sent to the hospital.

A 26-year-old man from Bristol lost his life in a serious two-car crash that occurred on Meriden Road in Waterbury early Saturday morning, according to the Waterbury police.

The victim, identified as Calvin Mackey Jr., was driving a 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck when the accident happened. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police spokesperson Lt. Ryan Bessette said in a news release.

The crash also left several others injured, including a 31-year-old woman who was rushed to Waterbury Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She remains in critical condition, Bessette added.

Two other people were also injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. A 37-year-old woman who was riding in Mackey's pickup truck suffered minor injuries, while a 39-year-old woman who was in the other vehicle was seriously hurt but is now in stable condition.

The operator of the other vehicle, a 2018 KIA Rio sedan, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and is listed in critical condition at Waterbury Hospital, the spokesperson said.

The Waterbury police responded to a report of a two-car accident in the area of 829 Meriden Road around 2 a.m. Saturday. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
