Bruceville-Eddy Family of Four Injured in Head-On Collision on Highway 7

One person died, and the rest of the family was hospitalized.
A family of four from Bruceville-Eddy, Texas is recovering in the hospital after a head-on collision on Highway 7 last Sunday. Tyler, Alicia, Kylee and Remi Lopez were driving back from softball practice when they were hit by a driver who was trying to pass another car on the opposite side of the highway.
The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox that collided with their Ford F-150 was identified as Taylor Defrees, 29, from Marlin. According to the DPS report, he died at the scene for unknown reasons.
Tyler Lopez broke his pelvis and now uses a walker temporarily while Alicia suffered internal bleeding from the impact and underwent emergency surgery to remove part of her small intestines. The girls both broke their collarbones but also sustained other injuries: Kylee faced a neck and spine fracture while Remi has a broken rib and small brain bleed.
Despite these injuries, all members are making remarkable strides towards recovery. Tyler was discharged from hospital on Sunday while Remi and Kylee have been moved out of ICU. Even opposing little league teams like Crawford 8-and-under Pandas donated to their GoFundMe page.
“We are so grateful,” said Mindy Hancock, Alicia’s sister. “In the midst of this chaos really is what it’s been… we are just more grateful than anything.”
