Car Crash Causes Power Outage in Mesa, AZ

Power restored after seven hours

A car crash in Mesa, Arizona caused a power outage on Wednesday morning, leaving some Salt River Project (SRP) customers without electricity for over seven hours. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when Rural Metro firefighters responded to reports of a collision involving downed powerlines on Quarterline Road near University Drive and Crismon Road. It is currently unknown if there were any injuries resulting from the crash.

The impact of the accident also led to several brush fires that were quickly extinguished by emergency responders. SRP stated that approximately 4,000 customers experienced power loss between Ellsworth to Meridian Roads and Broadway to Brown Roads as a result of the crash.

Just before 7 p.m., electricity was fully restored for all affected customers.
