21-year-old Saco Man Injured in Car Crash on I-295 in Brunswick

A 21-year-old man from Saco, Maine, was injured in a car crash on Interstate 295 in Brunswick on Saturday morning. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, a deputy witnessed the incident and reported that the driver, identified as Justin Williams, was traveling at "criminal speeds" of 30 miles per hour above the posted speed limit.

The accident occurred around 7:54 a.m. when Williams attempted to exit the highway at Exit 28 but lost control of his vehicle. As a result, his car veered off the road and collided with a large pine tree before catching fire.

Fortunately, emergency personnel were able to rescue Williams from the burning vehicle and promptly transported him to Maine Medical Center for medical treatment. Although he sustained serious injuries, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash to determine whether Williams will face criminal charges for his alleged reckless driving behavior. Meanwhile, crews worked diligently for two hours to clear the wreckage and reopen the southbound exit.
