Severe Car Crash in Oceanside Injures Driver and Passenger

Driver airlifted to trauma center, passenger in critical condition
On Sunday afternoon at 4:15 p.m., a car crashed into a parked excavator on eastbound State Route 78 near El Camino Real in Oceanside, California. The collision resulted in severe injuries to both the driver and passenger of the vehicle.
First responders from the Oceanside Fire Department were called to the scene to rescue the trapped individuals. The driver was quickly extricated and airlifted to a nearby trauma center for treatment. However, it took nearly 30 minutes for firefighters to free the passenger due to challenging circumstances, requiring special equipment and advanced techniques.
The passenger was also transported to a nearby trauma center but unfortunately went into traumatic cardiac arrest while en route in an ambulance. As of 7 p.m. on Sunday, they remained in stable but critical condition at the hospital.
Traffic congestion occurred on SR-78 as crews worked diligently to clear the accident site. The cause of this incident is currently being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
