One Injured in McFarland Car Crash
A car crash in McFarland, Wisconsin sent one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries on Friday morning. The blue Chevrolet Impala went off the road and landed upside down in a retention pond that shoots off from the Yahara River, parallel to Severson Street. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the accident.
McFarland Police Chief Aaron Chapin stated that "the individual who was taken to an area hospital was the only person in the car at the time." Divers with Madison Fire Department confirmed no one else was in it. Emergency crews arrived at around 10 a.m., shutting down both directions of U.S. 51 near Severson St. Farwell St. intersection.
The highway reopened soon after but Severson Street remained closed until noon while authorities towed away the Impala from the pond. Responding agencies included members of McFarland's police, fire, and EMS crews, as well as Madison Fire Department and Dane Co. Sheriff's Office.
Moreover, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources dispatched a team to assess any environmental impact from having a vehicle submerged into water.
