One Person Dies in Car Crash Near Socastee Swing Bridge

A tragic car accident near the Socastee swing bridge and Intracoastal Waterway has claimed the life of one person. According to Horry County Fire Rescue, they received a call at 11:39 a.m. about a vehicle that had crashed into the water.

The victim was identified as Demeatrius Chandler Jr., aged 23, from Myrtle Beach by the Horry County Coroner's Office. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that Chandler Jr. was driving west on Dick Pond Road when his vehicle veered off to the left and hit the bridge before plunging into the water.

It is not clear what caused Chandler Jr.'s car to leave the road, but authorities are investigating this incident further.
