On November 14, 2023, a car-hauler semitruck caught fire on I-294 near LaGrange, resulting in lane closures during rush hour. According to Illinois State Police, the fire completely engulfed the vehicle and caused solid traffic congestion stretching back to 95th Street. The incident involved a crash between two commercial vehicles but fortunately no injuries were reported at this time.
Firefighters are currently battling the blaze as conditions continue to worsen. However, there have been no updates regarding any additional injuries or damage caused by the fire.
The situation led to significant delays for commuters in the area. All lanes were finally reopened around 8:30 p.m., allowing traffic flow to gradually return to normal.
