According to court records, a woman was carjacked for her Dodge Charger on Moccasin Drive about 20 minutes before the crash. Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were in the stolen Charger when the accident happened. One of the teens was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in critical condition and charged with carjacking and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. As of April 20, the teen was still in the hospital. The other teen received the same charges and was taken to Juvenile Court after being released from Regional One Hospital.

The victim of the crash, 77-year-old Henry McNeil, died at the scene, according to the Memphis Police Department.

Pastor Joseph Baker of San Diego had a message to the people behind the surge of carjackings across Memphis. "Think about if that was your grandparent," he said. "How would you feel if your grandparent got killed or was in an accident that was caused by someone carjacking. How would you feel?"

The incident highlights the growing problem of carjackings in Memphis, which has seen a surge in recent months. Police have urged residents to be vigilant and take precautions to avoid becoming victims of carjackings.
