Charles Velz dies in cement truck rollover near Winfield

A cement truck driver has died after being taken to the hospital following a rollover accident on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred just west of the Winfield city limits in Kansas at around 10 a.m. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Charles Velz, aged 50 and from Winfield, was driving an eastbound cement mixer on 160 Highway when his vehicle left the roadway and partially overturned in the south ditch after striking a culvert. Troopers reported that Velz was ejected from the truck during the accident and he was not wearing his seatbelt at that time.
Velz was transported by EMS to William Newton Hospital where he later passed away due to injuries sustained in the crash. The cause of this tragic accident is still under investigation by authorities.
