One person hospitalized in serious condition

State troopers have reported that one person has been hospitalized in serious condition following a collision between a cement truck and a water truck in Washington County. The crash resulted in the temporary closure of all northbound lanes on Interstate 15 on Thursday morning, although one lane was reopened before 8:45 a.m.*

Sgt. Cameron Roden from the Utah Highway Patrol stated that the incident occurred when the water truck broke down at milepost 12, partially obstructing the right lane. As the driver was setting up caution triangles to warn other motorists, Roden explained that an approaching cement truck failed to notice the presence of the water truck until it was too late. In an attempt to avoid colliding with it, the cement truck swerved but ended up clipping its rear end.

The impact caused the cement truck to collide with the center concrete barrier before veering back towards its original position, effectively blocking all lanes of traffic with both trucks involved.

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by the water truck driver during this accident; however, emergency services transported the cement truck driver to a nearby hospital due to their serious condition. Sgt. Roden noted that this incident took place within a construction zone.
