Car turns in front of Colorado Springs Police patrol car causing crash

A car crash involving two patrol cars belonging to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) occurred on Thursday, June 22. The incident took place just before 3 p.m. when officers were responding to a call for service and heading north on North Nevada Avenue in the left lane. As they approached the intersection of Nevada and Winters Drive, a driver heading southbound made an unprotected left turn in front of them.
The CSPD patrol car was unable to stop in time and crashed into the passenger side of the turning vehicle. One person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
At least two patrol cars were involved in the crash that closed a stretch of North Nevada Avenue. The road is closed from Mount View Lane, just south of Garden of Gods Road, to Chambers Street, just north of Fillmore.
CSPD asked travelers in the area to use alternate routes while investigations continue.
