A construction worker tragically lost their life on Thursday morning while working on the Interstate 26 widening project in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The accident occurred when the contract worker with Fluor-United was outside of traffic.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) expressed their condolences to the employee's family and colleagues at Fluor-United. NCDOT spokesperson David Uchiyama stated, "This is a tragic reminder of how our employees and contractors risk their lives every day serving the public."
Local law enforcement and other agencies are currently investigating the accident, according to NCDOT officials. As a precautionary measure, Fluor-United has decided to temporarily halt all construction activities on the project.
