Three drivers suffered minor injuries

A serious crash involving multiple vehicles resulted in three people being injured and the closure of both southbound lanes of a section of I-69 for several hours on Monday.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation's TrafficWise website, the accident occurred approximately 10 miles south of Markle near State Road 5. The Huntington County Sheriff's Department (HCSD) reported that the collision involved three semitrucks and a pickup truck.

The incident took place around 12:51 p.m., when traffic was congested along I-69 for reasons yet unknown. One of the semitrucks failed to slow down and rear-ended another semitruck that had come to a stop due to the congestion, according to HCSD officials.

As a result of this initial impact, the stationary semitruck was pushed into the pickup truck, which then collided with another semitruck at the scene.

Three drivers sustained minor injuries as a consequence of this chain reaction crash and were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by authorities regarding the fourth driver involved in this incident.

After extensive efforts by emergency responders and highway crews, both southbound lanes were reopened after 5:00 p.m., allowing traffic flow to resume its normal course.

At present, investigations are still ongoing into what caused this multi-vehicle collision on I-69. Authorities will be working diligently to determine all factors contributing to this unfortunate event in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future.
