Driver transported to hospital for treatment of injuries
State Police have provided new information regarding a recent crash involving a fire truck in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred last week when a 2023 Subaru RX pulled out in front of Middletown Volunteer Fire Department Truck 88 at an intersection along East Harrisburg Pike and South Deodate Road.
At the time of the accident, the fire truck was en route to respond to a building fire in Elizabethtown on Thursday, September 28th, just before 7 a.m. As the traffic signal turned red at the intersection, State Police reported that the fire truck slowed down and cleared the intersection before proceeding.
However, it was during this moment that the Subaru driven by a 56-year-old woman from Lebanon County entered into its path and collided with it. According to online court documents, she has been charged with failing to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle approaching.
The driver of the Subaru sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no one inside the fire truck suffered any harm as a result of this incident.
Under Pennsylvania law, drivers are required to yield right of way to emergency vehicles displaying their signals and lights. Failure to do so can lead not only to accidents but also legal consequences for those involved.
Authorities continue their investigation into this crash as they work towards ensuring road safety for all motorists.
