Part of Route 1 in Wiscasset Closed After Crash Involving Vehicle Hauling Mobile Home
A section of Route 1 in Wiscasset was closed for several hours on Wednesday following a crash involving a vehicle hauling a mobile home. The incident occurred at around 5:23 am near the Wiscasset Ford auto dealership.
According to officials, a Ford Mustang heading south crossed the center line and collided with the truck carrying the mobile home. Police reported that there was an escort vehicle ahead of the truck warning of a wide load, but despite this, the accident still happened.
The driver of the car, identified as a man from Friendship, had to be cut from his vehicle and was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries. Meanwhile, extensive damage was caused to both vehicles involved in the collision as well as to part of the building located nearby.
An excavator was brought in later on Wednesday morning to demolish what remained of the damaged building and load it into dumpsters for removal. The truck and mobile home were headed towards Boggs Mobile Homes in Warren before being involved in this unfortunate incident.
Authorities have not yet released any further details regarding what may have caused this accident or if any charges will be filed against either driver involved.
