Crash on Interstate 26 in Polk County Closes Lanes in Both Directions

A crash on Interstate 26 in Polk County, North Carolina, has resulted in the closure of lanes in both directions. The incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. near mile marker 62 and involved a large truck that caught fire. The fire subsequently spread into nearby woods.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported that the driver of the truck was conscious and alert following the collision. They were transported to Spartanburg Regional by Regional One Air Medical for burn injuries.

As a result of the accident, all eastbound traffic was diverted onto Highway 25 by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), while all westbound traffic was redirected onto Highway 11 by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Access to I-26 West from Hwy 108, US 74, and Hwy 176 in Polk County has since reopened.
