A crossing guard in Maspeth, Queens was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday while she was ensuring the safety of children. The 63-year-old woman was hit from behind by a Mercedes as she escorted students from Our Lady of Hope Academy across Eliot Avenue near 71st Street.

The incident occurred just before 3 p.m., prompting a swift response from the FDNY who transported the injured crossing guard to a nearby hospital. Following the collision, the Mercedes crashed into a tree with such force that its airbags deployed.

Witnesses at the scene rushed to assist the injured guard.

This accident took place along the border between Middle Village and Maspeth where residents claim it is not an isolated incident. They attribute these accidents to drivers' impatience and failure to share the road responsibly.

Fortunately, despite sustaining injuries, the crossing guard is currently in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery according to police reports. No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Authorities are currently investigating what caused this crash and whether or not charges will be filed against the driver of the Mercedes involved.
