One Person Killed in Deadly Crash on Interstate 70 in Bennett Area

One person killed, three others with serious injuries
One person was killed in a deadly crash on Interstate 70 in the Bennett area on Thursday. According to Colorado State Patrol, the driver of a box truck had pulled over onto the shoulder of I-70 eastbound due to heavy rain and hail in the area. At the same time, a pickup truck with five occupants hydroplaned and collided with the back of the box truck.
The crash resulted in the box truck being pushed further off the interstate into a ditch. Tragically, one passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others sustained serious injuries. The pickup truck had Kansas plates, as confirmed by CSP.
As a result of this fatal accident, eastbound lanes on I-70 were closed from Exit 299 to Exit 304 at Bennett for several hours before finally reopening close to 10 p.m. The closure caused significant traffic disruptions during that period.
It is worth noting that at the time of this incident, the box truck was transporting pharmaceuticals destined for delivery on the East Coast.
This tragic crash serves as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution when encountering adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain and hail. It is crucial to adjust driving behavior accordingly and prioritize safety above all else.
