Driver of the SUV pronounced dead in Merced County crash

Driver of the SUV pronounced dead on scene. 19-year-old driver and passenger in the truck had minor injuries. Mustang driver had no injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that occurred in Merced County on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place around 1:50 p.m. on Highway 33, south of Hulen Road and involved four vehicles.
According to the officers, the person who allegedly caused the accident didn't hit anything and drove off, leading them to call it a "non-contact hit and run." Witnesses reported seeing a dark blue or grey two-door Audi with tinted windows driving south trying to pass a silver SUV when it got into the path of a black pickup truck driving north.
The driver of the truck tried to avoid hitting the car but lost control, causing him to collide head-on with an SUV which caught fire after being pushed onto the right side of the road. Sadly, its driver was pronounced dead at the scene while both occupants in their late teens sustained minor injuries.
A Mustang that had also been traveling south swerved to avoid other vehicles and ended up in a ditch; fortunately, its driver escaped unharmed.
As for now, CHP is still searching for any leads regarding this case as they did not say if drugs or alcohol are factors contributing towards this tragic event.
