Fatal crash
A fatal rollover crash on Wednesday morning has caused a section of SR-417 to be shut down in Orange County. The accident occurred on northbound SR-417 near mile marker 24, north of Moss Park Road. According to investigators, an 18-year-old Orlando man driving a 2022 Dodge Challenger was attempting to change lanes when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a concrete wall. He then collided with a 2014 Ford Escape being driven by a 69-year-old Orlando man, causing his vehicle to overturn.
The older driver was taken to UCF Lake Nona Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The younger driver remained at the scene and was uninjured. All northbound lanes on SR-417 south of SR-528 (mile marker 24) are currently blocked due to the crash, with traffic being diverted at Moss Park Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and it remains unclear what caused the accident or how long it will impact traffic in the area. Heavy delays have been reported and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
