Man Dead, 10-Year-Old Girl Injured in Gainesville Semi-Truck Crash

One man dead, 10-year-old girl injured
A fatal accident involving two semi-trucks occurred on I-75 in Gainesville early Wednesday morning.
The incident took place on I-75 northbound, just south of the rest area at mile marker 379. The Alachua County Fire Rescue, Gainesville Fire Rescue, and Micanopy Fire Department responded to the scene.
The crash resulted in a 55-year-old man being trapped inside one of the semis. He had to be extracted from the vehicle using hydraulic tools and was transported to a local trauma center where he later died. A 10-year-old girl who was also involved in the accident managed to exit her vehicle under her own power and was taken to hospital for treatment.
GFR's HazMat team assisted with cleaning up a large diesel spill caused by the collision while Florida Highway Patrol investigates what led up to this tragic event.
The driver of the other semi involved in this crash is reported as uninjured. No further information has been released at this time regarding their identity or any potential charges that may arise from this incident.
