Chaotic Crash on I-75 Involving Semi-Truck Sends 7 to Hospital

7 people sent to the hospital, freeway closed for hours for cleanup
A dramatic crash involving a semi-tanker-truck and two vehicles sent seven people to the hospital and shut down I-75 in both directions on Friday. The incident occurred due to a speeding 27-year-old driver who hit the side of the semi on northbound I-75 near Warren Avenue, according to Michigan State Police.
The truck driver then lost control, flipped over the median wall and knocked down a light pole in the process, landing on southbound I-75 lanes.
The 27-year-old driver's vehicle flipped on its side after hitting the truck while causing it to catch fire. A third driver in another vehicle was involved in this chaotic crash as well, flipping their car onto its side near where the burning chassis lay.
Three people suffered minor injuries, but all seven were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The tanker carrying approximately 10,000 gallons of fuel did not catch fire. Hazmat crews were sent to the scene to cleanup gas (from gas tanks) and oil spillage.
All lanes of both northbound and southbound I-75 Fwy were closed due to cleanup efforts that lasted several hours before reopening later that day.
Michigan State Police cited the at-fault driver for careless driving without insurance coverage.
