Driver Arrested After Hit-and-Run Crashes Leave One Dead

One person dead, suspect in custody
A driver was arrested in Chandler, AZ after being involved in two hit-and-run crashes that occurred just minutes apart. Tragically, one person lost their life as a result of these incidents.
The first crash took place near the intersection of McQueen and Ocotillo roads at around 7 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, Chandler police discovered that one of the drivers had fled on foot. Witnesses provided officers with a description of the driver and their direction of escape, leading to the quick establishment of a perimeter. The suspect was promptly located and taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed that prior to this initial collision, the same driver had been involved in another crash moments earlier at Ocotillo Road and Chandler Paseo Trail, which is situated west of the first accident site. Unfortunately, this second collision resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of their next-of-kin.
Detective Eva Zermeno emphasized that this area is heavily populated with pedestrians who engage in activities such as running or walking throughout all hours but particularly during this time of year. She expressed her condolences to the victim's family while acknowledging it as an unfortunate tragedy.
During Monday morning's investigation into both crash sites, eastbound traffic from Arizona Avenue to McQueen Road was temporarily closed off but has since reopened.
