Driver charged after fleeing scene of accident in North Augusta

Driver charged with leaving the scene, one person taken to emergency room
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety has charged a driver who attempted to flee the scene of an accident on Jefferson Davis Highway. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. last Sunday, when an accident blocked Jefferson Davis Highway at the intersection of Interstate 520 and U.S. 1.
According to reports, two cars were involved in the wreck and one of the drivers fled on foot. However, North Augusta Public Safety quickly deployed a patrol canine with tracking abilities and was able to take the subject into custody without further incident.
Authorities confirmed that another person was taken to an emergency room for injuries that were not life-threatening.
Lt. Junior Johnson with the North Augusta Department of Public Safety stated that "the driver will be charged with leaving the scene." The South Carolina Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
