Driver Crashes into School Gym in Philadelphia's Juniata Section

Early Friday morning, a driver crashed into a school gym located in the Juniata section of Philadelphia. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Torresdale Avenue, according to authorities.

Police reported that the driver lost control of their vehicle and collided with a building at the Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School, which houses both the gym and cafeteria. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency crews found the driver unresponsive and promptly extricated them from the car. The individual was then transported to an area hospital for further medical attention.

In response to this unfortunate event, fire crews have requested assistance from the Department of Licenses and Inspections to assess and inspect any structural damage caused by the crash.

Despite this incident, classes proceeded as scheduled for today's half-day session. However, students were released at noon instead of their usual dismissal time.

A witness described seeing the car go airborne after losing control. According to his account, the vehicle spun sideways before colliding with a sign, tree, fence, and ultimately crashing into the school building itself.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into what led up to this accident.
